We have a step-by-step resource to help answer any questions you might have. This allows teachers to load an IM course into Google Classroom with the following structure: Each lesson and each practice problem set will be an assignment, the student learning goal for the lesson will appear in the description, and each classwork item will be set as assignment, but will default to a draft, letting teachers publish as they see fit.

English Language Learners

Starfall- This is a favorite site for many young children and their teachers! Students choose one of these categories: ABC's, Learn to Read, It's Fun to Read, and I'm Reading. Using exciting visuals, sounds, and text, students can learn their letters, sounds, and advance to reading simple stories. This site began in September of 2002 by the Polis-Schutz family. It's a free public service to motivate children to read with phonics.

Storyline Online- Children can listen to famous actors read popular stories to them. Twenty-two well loved stories are available for students to choose from. Students see the text and illustrations while they listen to the story. This site is a program of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.

BrainPOP ESL- Students can choose lessons from six different levels with each level consisting of five stories. Students begin by watching an animated movie that focuses on particular vocabulary and grammar points. Students practice the concepts with fun games and activities. Each lesson has a short quiz and a teacher resource page. BrainPOP was started ten years ago by Dr. Avraham Kader, M.D. T.

PBS Kids-Young children can have lots of fun playing interactive games with their favorite PBS characters! Students choose a PBS show and then they can choose a variety of games that practice concepts such as literacy skills, science, social studies, citizenship, and technology. Teacher and parent resources are provided for each lesson. Some parent resources are translated into Spanish. This site is offered through the Public Broadcasting System.

Are you searching for technology that will motivate budding and reluctant writers to author the next great story? Inklewriter provides the format for writing interactive branched stories. While students focus on writing, Inklewriter handles the story paths that end and those yet to be developed. Students who love the "choose your own ending" stories will enjoy writing, editing and reading on this dynamic site. Branched stories with the potential for multiple endings will also intrigue those interested in game development. Finished projects can be shared with a limited or global audience at the author's discretion.
Tip: Use Inklewriter to explore decision making and consequences in secondary Health, Social Studies, Science, and English classes.

myHistro 
My histro provides a venue for stories displayed on maps. Watch and read thousands of fascinating timelines, or create your own complete with text, video, and pictures to create a dynamic timeline mashup. Use professionally developed maps or have students develop their own working collaboratively or individually. Export maps in a variety of formats including .csv, .klm, and pdf for offline viewing or embed them on your website, blog, or wiki for easy access. Grades 4-12.
Tip: Use myhistro to tell stories that include what, when, and why across curriculum areas and grade levels that work like a dream on your interactive presentation surface.

FlipSnack 
Flipsnack is an application used to convert PDF files into a flipping book that is easy to use. Simply upload a PDF file, customize the book, and share. The online flip books are designed to resemble regular print books. You can choose a classic, hardcover, coil, or interactive flip format for your book, as well as a book size. Color options for the cover and background are also offered. Finished flip books can be published privately or publicly and edited at any time. The final flip book is attractive and professional-looking. Books can be shared on Facebook and Twitter or emailed and embedded with a watermark. Grades K-12.  
Tip: Students can combine reports or creative writing with pictures and graphics to create flip books that can be shared with parents.

BiblioNasium 
How many of you use Shelfari? Library Thing? Well, Biblionasium is the social network students in grades 4 – 12 can use to set up virtual bookshelves and keep track of what they’ve read, what they like, and what they plan to read. Students will read more consistently when they connect with friends to share and recommend their favorite books. English, ELL, and Reading teachers will appreciate the inclusion of Lexile ranges. Grades 4-12.
Tip: Use Biblionasium in flipped libraries and classrooms to inspire independent reading.

LitPick 
LitPick provides free electronic books to students in grades 4-12. Students take on the role of a book critic, reading books, developing and posting reviews anonymously on the LitPick site where other students can read them. Members can also participate in the LitPick threaded discussion forum with authors, publishers, publicists, and parents who are interested in learning about YA literature.
Tip: Use LitPick to provide access to free eBooks and promote reading reviews for students by students.

padlet
Padlet, formerly called Wallwisher, makes posting things on the Internet as easy as pinning notes on a bulletin board. Using the idea of a blank piece of paper, you can put whatever you want on your wall by dragging and dropping documents and images from your desktop, copying and pasting links to websites or videos or just typing notes on your page. When you finish posting things to your wall you will be able to collaborate with others using a unique URL as well as through a variety of social networks. Grades 4-12.
Tip: Use Padlet to brainstorm ideas for group projects or to collect and showcase student work.

Gooru 
Gooru is a free, educational search engine for online resources and lesson plans in science, math, social studies and language arts. Teachers and students can search for and curate collections of multimedia resources, digital textbooks, videos, handouts, games, and quizzes. Collect and gather information into “My Collections” and “My Classes” categories. Grades: K-12. 
Tip: You and your students can customize an existing collection or create your own “playlist of learning resources.”

Molecular Workbench 
Molecular Workbench is a free, open source environment providing visual, interactive computational experiments for teaching and learning science. Even though there are many simulations ready for use in the classroom, teachers can also create simulations based on their specific curricular needs and share them with other teachers. Grades: 9-12. 
Tip: Have students browse through the Simulation Showcase or Library of Models for Science Fair project ideas.

Knowmia 
Knowmia is a web location that features short video lessons from teachers around the globe. The lessons cover a wide range of topics, having trouble teaching a difficult subject or concept Knowmia is here to help. Over 30,000 video lessons are available to users. Search for topics using an easy, simple search tool. There is a teacher, style, subject, and lesson for every style of educator and classroom. Don't see what you're looking for, add a lesson of your own and help other educators in the field. Grades: 4th-12th.
Tip: Check out the myriad of videos on digital citizenship, information literacy, and enhance your library instruction with these great tools.

Engineering is Elementary 
Engineering is Elementary uses children’s love for building things to engage them in real-world engineering design challenges. The hands-on projects integrate an elementary school science topic with a specific field of engineering. A searchable database is included. Projects combine science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to encourage problem-solving, inquiry, and innovation. Units include lesson plans, assessment tools, and a wealth of multimedia resources to assist teachers before and during the projects. Grades: 1-8. 
Tip: Display finished engineering projects in the library, along with related books, to promote STEM topics and this great website to students and teachers.

  1. Thanks for sharing this article. Please share your views on flipped classroom. I have heard that a teacher should flip their classroom because it is a good way to do work at home and in school; and to see if learning is improved. Is it true?
